Top 10 Box Office Hits of 2019

As we head out of the year (and decade), here are Top 10 box office hits for 2019 (as of Dec. 30). From Avengers: Endgame to Frozen 2 to The Lion King, this was a landmark year for Disney. Joker helped break up Disney’s chances at full monopoly, though Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker still managed to sneak in at the eleventh hour.

No surprise, Endgame was the box office king, having beaten out Avatar to become the top grossing movie of all time – though James Cameron believes Avatar will overtake Endgame eventually since the the margin is so small, and Avatar will most likely get a rerelease before Avatar 2.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may be tracking slightly behind The Last Jedi at this point, but it still grossed enough to crack the year’s Top 10 for both domestic and worldwide.

Disney’s live-action adaptations continued to be powerhouses while Joker became the smash hit of the fall, breaking records as the top-grossing R-rated movie of all time (and the first R-rated film to cross a billion).
