The third edition of “Fare Cinema” – Making Cinema, an initiative by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation aimed at promoting Italian cinema and film industry in the world will kick off today.
The festival, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Italian Trade Agency, the National Association of Film, Audiovisual and Multimedia Industries and the Istituto Luce Cinecittà, will run until June 21.
Thanks to the collaboration with Italian national broadcasting RAI, for the very first time the festival will be entirely in digital format all over the world on the RaiPlay platform (www.raiplay.it).
Viewers, especially those in Qatar, can also stay tuned on the embassy’s Twitter (@ItalyinQatar) and Facebook page (embassy of Italy in Doha). The billboard offers an unprecedented array of content dedicated to the Italian cinema and film industry, subtitled in English, French and Spanish. It includes masterclasses with film critics and journalists, lectures on careers in film, short films, and other original material, available for free and without geographical restrictions.
On June 20, during the “Fare Cinema”, Italy will also celebrate the first World Day of Italian cinema, deliberated by parliament last December, and the five “Best short films” of the David di Donatello 2020 Awards will be available on RaiPlay. Fare Cinema is a celebration of the extraordinary heritage of Italian cinema and of all the different professions contributing to make Made in Italy cinema famous internationally. This year the festival will pay special tribute to two of the greatest representatives of Italian cinema, Italian director Federico Fellini and Italian actor Alberto Sordi, on the 100th anniversary of their birth.
Talking about the cultural activities of the embassy of Italy at the time of Covid-19, the envoy noted: “The pandemic has not stopped our calendar of cultural initiatives; on the contrary, it has encouraged us to find new creative ways to share Italian culture through social media and digital means.” Prunas added.
