‘Annabelle: Creation’ Director David F. Sandberg Wants To Do An ‘Elm Street’ Reboot (And He’s The Perfect Choice)
According to ScreenRant, Sandberg recently mentioned the two New Line Cinema-owned horror movies he’d love to get a shot at rebooting in an interesting way.
“I’ve been thinking about what fun franchises New Line has like ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and ‘Critters.’ It might be fun if you took something like that in a different direction from previous instalments – like instead of remaking ‘Nightmare’, you do some continuation of it in the same world kind of thing.”
Considering the director’s admirable track record and his ongoing relationship with New Line Cinema, it’s possible that we’ll see a Sandberg-directed addition to these franchises in the near future. Although some fans would surely prefer Sandberg to tackle original concepts, there are a few reasons as to why the Lights Out director would be the perfect director to bring these stories back to life.
Sandberg Is The Perfect Choice For These Reboots!
As proven by #AnnabelleCreation, Sandberg is capable of reviving dormant horror movies and turning them into must-see additions to the genre. Creation seemed to have a lot going against it, and yet the prequel-to-a-prequel is now loved by fans and critics alike. In fact, the film quickly rocketed to the box office’s top spot, solidifying Sandberg as a director New Line Cinema can safely entrust with their most valued properties.
Creation may not be the most genre-defying horror ever made, but it was the perfect popcorn-fueled ghost ride that utilized the genre’s familiar staples to scare audiences while providing a compelling story. Given that A Nightmare On Elm Street and Critters are products of their time, Sandberg would be the perfect director to bring these titles back to their roots while maintaining an old-school charm for a new generation of viewers to enjoy.

The director’s most beloved movies may have simplistic premises, but they have consistently managed to scare audiences in a way that would be beneficial to the Elm Street franchise. His trademark techniques, along with his love and respect for both franchises, make him the perfect candidate for these revivals.
Whatever Sandberg chooses to direct next will undoubtedly be an interesting venture, and his recent comments regarding the future of cult favorites are certainly encouraging for fans of the horror genre.
