The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started implementing the D-Ring Road upgrade works. The project is aimed at improving traffic at the three main intersections of D-Ring Road and providing free-flowing vehicular movement by increasing the number of lanes at the Fereej Al Ali Interchange (known as Al Tadamon Intersection) and Nuaija Intersection and also free-flowing traffic at the signal known as LuLu intersection.
The improvements at these intersections will reduce congestion in the area, especially at Al Tadamon Intersection, which currently witnesses high traffic volume.
The works will include the construction of a rainwater drainage tunnel with a total length of about 3.5km to improve the efficiency of drainage networks in the area. They will also include the construction of shared pedestrian and cycling lanes along the 4.5km D-Ring Road on both sides.
Well-planned diversions will be implemented in the project area to allow the execution of construction works and to reduce the impact on traffic flow in the area, Ashghal said.
The completed sections of the projects will be gradually opened to traffic and the project is scheduled to be completed by Q1, 2022.
Accordingly, elements inspired from the Qatari environment will be featured on murals inside the underpass that will be built as part of the project.
