Municipalities in Qatar have announced intensive preparations for Eid al-Adha through action plans chalked out, including extensive inspection campaigns on food facilities, along with disinfecting and equipping public parks to receive visitors.


The Ministry of Municipality and Environment have set up a work plan that includes the implementation of intensive daily inspection campaigns on meat and poultry stores, vegetable and fruit shops, candy and nut stores , and daily inspection of commercial complexes and consumer societies ,to ensure the safety of the products offered for sale and ‘special offers’.

Under the work plan, the inspectors will monitor the food establishments to ensure the application of health requirements and standards in the fields of storage and refrigeration, and see that workers hold valid health certificates, and they follow standards while handling foodstuffs, and the food materials are safe for human consumption.

These inspectors supervise all stages of slaughtering in the abattoirs, and ensure immediate disposal of slaughtered carcasses not fit for human consumption. Doha Municipality’s health control section has adopted a work plan in cooperation with Widam Food Company to provide adequate number of butchers, cleaning workers and security personnel to offer the public high quality services throughout the Eid days.

Work will be in shifts from 5am until 5pm daily. Fish coming directly from the sea to Doha Corniche’s open fish market will be also regularly checked. Also, food inspectors will visit the food manufacturers and storehouses at the Industrial Area.

Meanwhile, all food outlets have been instructed to strictly follow the health measures. Complaints will be received daily round the clock. Any violation will be met with appropriate legal measures in public interest. During Eid al-Adha holidays, requests for insect and rodent control will be implemented during the morning period, while the removal of sewage will be done in the evening hours.

Public inspectors will also check streets, squares, neighborhoods, parks, as well as shops and restaurants for cleanliness, the statement said.

All public parks as well as the Corniche are also being cleaned, sterilized and disinfected on a regular basis.
